Alhambra

This board game is a must play! If you have not played Alhambra before, you are surely missing out on a great board game experience and you need to play this one as soon as possible. This was my first board game play of 2019.

From the back of the box:

The best master builders in the whole of Europe and Arabia want to demonstrate their skill. Employ the most suitable teams of builders and make sure that you always have enough of the right currency.

With their help towers can be constructed, gardens laid out, pavilions and arcades erected and seraglios and chambers built.

Compete against your opponents to build the Alhambra.

For 2-6 players
Ages 8+
Game Length: 45-60 minutes

End of Alhambra game played on 01/04/2019

This game, in particular, was something that I don’t think I have encountered in past game plays. The majority of the palace tiles were not drawn, from the draw bag, until the very end of the game.

One of the great features of this game is how it ends: Once you can no longer fill four new tiles to the center tile board, the game will end. Then, whoever, has the most currency, in each distinct color, will be given that tile and can immediately place that tile in their play area (providing they can add it to their existing Alhambra legally). This could potentially shift the balance of the game, so it is an important strategy to be sure to hold on to your money as the game is nearing the end.

As shown above, this is how I was able to add both a palace and arcade tile to my Alhambra! I ended up winning by 1 point. Game on!
